KENYA AND TANZANIA SAFARI EXPEDITION

FULL ITINARY

DAY 1: ARRIVAL – NAIROBI      

Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi, you will be met by KSafaris & African Expeditions Ltd representative who will assist through customs and then transfer to the city Hotel in Nairobi for your Overnight stay.

DAY 2: NAIROBI – AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK      

After an early breakfast, your comfortable land cruiser will transfer you to the Wilson airport for your departure flight to Amboseli National Park. Upon arrival, you will be met by your guides of the day and there you begin your mid-morning game drive. Amboseli National Park is located at the foot of Africa’s highest mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro. The snow-capped peak of Mount Kilimanjaro rises above a saucer of clouds and dominates every aspect of Amboseli. This park covers only 150 square miles but despite its small size and its fragile ecosystem it supports a wide range of mammals (well over 50 of the larger species) and birds (over 400 species). You will arrive in time for lunch at Tortilis Camp and thereafter, you will have an afternoon game viewing drive. Later as the sun sets, you will be transferred back to your Camp for dinner and overnight.

DAY 3: AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK

This morning enjoy a game drives in the Park. Amboseli is best known for views of spectacular Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa at some 19,341 feet. The park affords you the best opportunity to get close to the mighty elephant.

You might also spot Cape buffalo, zebra, wild dog, and others. During the heat of the day, relax at your Camp. You will have a game viewing drive in the afternoon. All meals and overnight at the Camp.

DAY 4: AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK – MAASAI MARA GAME RESERVE

After an early breakfast this morning, you will be transferred to the airstrip for your departure flight to Maasai Mara. Your flight will land in Wilson airstrip in Nairobi then you catch the other flight to Maasai Mara Game reserve. Upon arriving the Mara, your land cruiser will be waiting for you, and you will be transferred to your Lodge for check-in and luncheon; and thereafter, you will begin your exploration of the Maasai Mara game Reserve.
You will embark on an afternoon game drive after lunch.

Maasai Mara is Kenya’s most famous wildlife reserve and the setting for much of the film Out of Africa.  It is classic savannah grasslands, where animals are plentiful and the vistas spectacular. Here Maasai tend their cattle in concert with free roaming wildlife – all sharing the same land with minimal conflicts.
You will have four days of wildlife-viewing opportunities in the Maasai Mara Reserve, also known as the “Jewel of Africa,” inhabited by many of Africa’s most popular wild animals, including lion, cheetah, elephant, leopard, black rhino and hippo. There are over 500 resident species of birds in the park including ostrich, larks and sunbirds as well as the lovely Lilac-breasted Roller.

DAY 5: MAASAI MARA GAME RESERVE

On this day you will have a morning game drive within the National reserve; then later in the afternoon you will have optional visit to the Maasai Village. Here you will get to learn about the Maasai cultural activities, their ornaments and get to interact and learn more about them. Later then you will have a game drive en-route to your camp.

DAY 6: MAASAI MARA GAME RESERVE

Today you can have an Optional activity (at additional cost) of  a balloon safari for an exhilarating experience over the savannah as the early sun rises and the animals are more active.
Or better still you can have an early morning game drive within this spectacular National reserve.

This Reserve is famous for rolling grassland and for the Mara River, which runs through the reserve from north to south. The reserve covers an area of 700 square miles and forms part of the Serengeti ecosystem, hosting the world famous spectacle of the annual migration of up to two million wildebeest, thousands of zebra and an escort of carnivores as they follow the rains and succulent new grass. A costly trek as many of the lame, laggard and sick will fall prey to ravenous packs of predators and many more will die crossing the swirling flood waters of the Mara River.

Return later for Dinner and overnight at your Camp.

DAY 7: MAASAI MARA – NAIROBI – ARUSHA      

After breakfast at the Camp, enjoy the morning game viewing drive, before being transferred to the airstrip to catch your flight back to Nairobi; upon arrival at Wilson airstrip, our representative will pick you up and there you up and transfer you to Jomo Kenyatta International airport for your departure flight to Arusha Tanzania. You will then be picked up and dropped off at Arusha Coffee Lodge.

Set on the outskirts of Arusha on Tanzania’s largest coffee plantation, Arusha Coffee Lodge is the ideal stopover on a Tanzanian safari. Retaining its luxurious colonial atmosphere, the lodge has wonderful views of the towering Mount Meru and is well-placed to access Tanzania’s famous safari destinations.

Day 8: Arusha – Tarangire National Park   

After breakfast this morning, depart to Oliver’s Camp located within a hidden pocket of Tarangire National Park. Tarangire is noted for its Elephant population and spectacular baobabs of every shape creating a beautiful setting. Arrive for lunch followed by an afternoon game viewing drive. Later as the sun sets, you will be transferred back to your camp for overnight.

Oliver’s Camp has one of the most wonderful settings one could imagine and offers an unparalleled bush experience. From the camp a much wider eco-system can be accessed: the Ngorongoro highlands, the Great Rift Valley, the Lake Manyara region and of course Tarangire National Park itself. There is no better location from which to understand the breathtaking beauty and at the same time the complexity and ultimate fragility of this unique eco-system.

The staff have years of experience, and a stay in this camp is like joining a warm family, who will share with you a deeper knowledge of this stunning national park and its inhabitants. Walking safaris are the specialty here, and the guides make the experience unforgettable.

Day 9: Tarangire National Park    

On the second day, you will have a full day game viewing drive in the park with all meals and overnight at the camp.

A lot of migratory animals aim to reside here during the dry season. You can see groups and herds of animals like 600 elephants followed by zebras, buffalos and oryxes who ventured from the Maasai to the Tarangire in search for water. There are also a few lions prowling around and looking for unsuspecting preys around the jungle. Some of the other animals that you may see here are antelopes, warthogs, hippos, cheetahs, leopards, foxes, jackals and waterbucks.

Day 10: Lake Manyara National Park – Ngorongoro Highlands     

After breakfast, depart to the beautiful Lake Manyara, a shallow alkaline lake that shimmers in a cleft in the Great Rift Valley. Arrive and embark on a game viewing drive.

Tucked below the majesty of the Rift Valley wall, Lake Manyara National Park consists of a thin green band of forest, flanked by the sheer 600 m high red and brown cliffs of the escarpment on one side and by the white-hot shores of an ancient soda lake on the other. Acacia woodland shelters the park’s famous tree climbing lions, lying languidly among the branches in the heat of the dayLake Manyara safaris offers many unique views including elephant, giraffe, buffalo and wildebeest can be found grazing in unexpected clearings or heading towards the water to drink or wash, and the rivers and riverbeds provide scenic vistas for possible animal spotting.

Warthog seem to thrive here, growing notably fat and tuskered, and it is a natural playground for baboons and monkeys. Later as the sun sets, you will be transferred to which stands on the edge of the escarpment, overlooking the lake.

Continue to the Manor at Ngorongoro for overnight. Located in the green and rolling hills south of the Ngorongoro Crater within a 1500-acre Arabica coffee estate, The Manor Ngorongoro with its 20 luxurious cottages and magnificent Main House is reminiscent of an elegant up-country farm home in the Cape Dutch-style of architecture. Each of the cottages has been carefully positioned to maximise the views of the adjacent verdant hills but at the same time to maintain the intimacy and privacy of this old-world manor home. The Manor boasts beautiful gardens overlooking the surrounding coffee-laden hills.

Day 11: Inside the land that time forgot

After breakfast, descend into the ‘8th Wonder of the World’, a unique biosphere that has remained virtually unchanged since the dawn of time. Enclosed within its towering walls are grasslands, swamps, forests, saltpans, a fresh water lake and a glorious variety of birdlife. Here too are all the members of the ‘Big Five’ (lion, elephant, rhino, leopard and buffalo) as well as a large cast of plains game and one of Africa’s densest populations of predators. Enjoy a picnic lunch on the crater floor before driving back to your lodge for relaxation before dinner.

Day 12, 13 & 14 : Serengeti National Park (Northern Serengeti) 

You will be transferred this morning to the Manyara airstrip for your scheduled flight to the Northern Serengeti. Spend three days with morning and afternoon game viewing drives. Other activities available include interpretative bush walks, walking safaris, bush breakfasts, and cultural visits. All meals and overnight at the camp.

The Northern Serengeti supports a good number of resident herbivores including giraffe, hippo, topi, impala and Thomson’s gazelle. This area is home to the largest remaining concentrations of elephants and buffalo in the Serengeti. All four large carnivores (lion, leopard, cheetah and hyena) are also resident in the Northern Serengeti.

Day 15: Arusha – Day use– Departure  

You will have breakfast this morning. After this last taste of Africa, you will be transferred to the airstrip for your flight departing at 1100hrs to Arusha arriving at 1215hrs. Your guide will assist with the transfer to Arusha Coffee Lodge for lunch. A day room has been reserved for you till 1800hrs. You will later be transferred to the Kilimanjaro airport for your International flight back home.
