Day 02: Golden Monkey Tracking

This day is set out for Golden Monkey tracking in the Volcanoes National Park. Entering dense stands of bamboo interspersed with open glades; you will make your way deep into golden monkey territory. Guides lead visitors to the habitat of groups of ‘habituated’ golden monkeys – monkeys that have become accustomed to human presence. Though viewing is kept to a maximum of one hour, travelers can get an up-close look at the golden monkey in its natural habitat. Adult monkeys frolic in plain view, feeding on bamboo leaves and leaping from perch to perch. Females carry their young, completely comfortable among onlookers. Later visit to a nearby sacred forest where the ancient kings used to perform their rituals. Return to Mountain Gorilla View Lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 03: Gorilla Tracking

After an early breakfast, you will proceed to the National Park headquarters – Kinigi to meet your guides for the day. After completing our park formalities, we are embark on a once in a life time experience of tracking mountain gorillas. Once you spot them you are allowed to spend an hour watching your closest long lost cousin. This is perhaps one of the most breathtaking wildlife experiences on earth!!! You get so close to these awesome giant primates. You stare at each other blankly not knowing who to break the long silence first. Tracking the gorillas through the light mountain forest on the slopes of the Virunga is a magical experience. These massive primates are extremely rare, with less than 700 living today. You will get within meters of the family, and be privileged to spend an hour amongst them. The trekking may be fairly strenuous; up to six hours or longer at a relatively high altitude. We encourage for your own enjoyment to make sure that you are perfectly fit and healthy. Return for lunch at the Mountain Gorilla View Lodge then in the afternoon Take a village walk, walk along the twin Lakes of Bulera and Ruhondo. People living around Rwanda’s many lakes try to make a living out of what these lakes have to offer. These people are eager to pass on their traditional knowledge and experience and to clue somebody in the secrets of Rwandan fishing methods. Later dinner and overnight at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge.

Day 04: Second Gorilla Tracking + Depart For Kigali

Today after an early breakfast, you will be driven to the National Park headquarters – Kinigi to meet your guides for the day for your second gorilla trekking experience. Mountain gorillas do not survive in captivity, which is why they are not seen in zoos and meeting them in the undergrowth is an inspiring moment. Quietly chewing away at their vegetarian delicacies, they seem like a marooned human family. The tender grooming and firm disciplining of their offspring seems all too familiar. The gorilla family cast a wary glance at the sudden human intrusion into their private world, but is comforted by the clucking made by the trackers. When provoked, the noisy but harmless silverback grunts, screeches, bares his fangs and beats his chest, before slithering off with attendant females, offspring and other mature males. Later return to Mountain Gorilla View Lodge to freshen up then have lunch. You will then depart for a 2 hours’ drive to Kigali arriving for dinner at Chez Lando and later overnight at the Kigali Serena Hotel.

Day 05: City Tour + Depart

After breakfast you will bid your host good bye and our driver guide will be waiting to pick you up so you proceed on a complementary city tour visiting interesting spots which may include; the craft market, Gisozi genocide memorial site & Kigali museum before being transferred to the Kigali International airport for your flight back home.
